A deep and soulful journey into the heart of Ghana’s indigenous highlife music.
The 72-year-old “Golden Voice of Africa” Pat Thomas, Ghanaians producers Kwame Yeboah and Ben Abarbanel-Wolff from the Kwashibu Area Band announced the release of their sophomore album on Strut Records, Obiaa!. Produced and recorded at Lovelite Studio’s analogue HQ in Berlin, Obiaa!, which means “Everybody!”, is described by his authors like a sweet highlife sound taken in a progressive new direction. You can find this feeling on the first single, “Onfa Nkosi Hwee”, below:
While simultaneously looking back towards the classic days of highlife and forward to a fresh revival of the guitar band sound, this album cements Pat Thomas & Kwashibu Area Band’s position at the pinnacle of modern African music
